How the calculation works
Revenue is the price plus shipping you charge. The calculator subtracts the percentage commission, any fixed fee, the payment processing fee and advertising, and then your item, shipping and packaging costs. The remainder is net profit, expressed as a margin on revenue and a return on cost.
Why fees change the right price
Percentage fees grow with the price, so a higher price does not raise profit one-for-one, and fixed fees weigh more on cheap items. The break-even and target-margin prices solve for this, which helps you avoid pricing too low.
Use real fee data
Fees differ by marketplace, category and country, and they change over time. Fill the fields from your marketplace's current fee page. This tool is an estimate and not tax or financial advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate profit after marketplace fees?
Take the revenue, subtract the marketplace commission, payment processing, fixed fees and advertising, then subtract what the item cost you and your shipping and packaging. What is left is your net profit. This calculator does it and shows the margin.
What is the difference between margin and return on cost?
Margin is profit divided by revenue, while return on cost is profit divided by what you spent. A 20 percent margin can correspond to a larger return on cost, and sellers use both to compare products.
What price do I need for a target margin?
Set your target margin in the box and the calculator solves for the selling price, taking all percentage fees and fixed fees into account. If fees are too high for that margin, it tells you it is not reachable.
Does it work for any marketplace?
Yes. Enter the commission percentage and fixed fees your marketplace charges. For Amazon, eBay and Etsy there are dedicated calculators with typical defaults filled in.
Are taxes included?
No. Sales tax, VAT, income tax and returns are not included, so keep margin in reserve. The result is an estimate for planning.
