Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary?
Multiply the hourly wage by hours per week and by paid weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks that's 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year.
What's the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
Biweekly means every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semimonthly means twice a month, usually on fixed dates, which is 24 paychecks. Biweekly checks are slightly smaller but there are two extra each year.
Does this include overtime?
No. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek, so actual pay can be higher if you work overtime.
Is this my take-home pay?
No. These are gross amounts. Income taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and benefit deductions are subtracted before you're paid.
