Marketplace fees change often and differ by category, country and seller plan. The defaults are typical published rates, so check the marketplace's current fee page and adjust the fields. This is an estimate and not tax or financial advice. Sales tax and returns are not included.

How to Use

  1. 1Enter the selling price and the shipping you charge the buyer.
  2. 2Enter what the item cost you, your shipping cost and any packaging cost.
  3. 3Check the final value fee and per-order fee against eBay's current fee page, and adjust them if your category differs.
  4. 4Read your net profit, margin and break-even price, and set a target margin to see the price you should charge.

How the profit is calculated

Revenue is the item price plus the shipping you charge. From it the calculator subtracts the final value fee on that total, the per-order fee, any promoted-listing cost, what the item cost you, the shipping you pay and packaging. What remains is your net profit, shown also as a margin on revenue and as a return on your costs.

Pricing with fees in mind

Because the fee takes a percentage of everything the buyer pays, raising the price raises the fee too, so a higher price does not increase profit one-for-one. The break-even and target-margin prices solve this for you, which is how to avoid underpricing.

Keep your fee settings current

eBay adjusts fees and category rates over time, and store subscriptions can lower them. Treat the defaults as a starting point and match them to your account. Estimates exclude tax and returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does eBay take from a sale?

For most categories eBay charges a final value fee of roughly 13 to 14 percent of the total sale amount, which includes the item price and the shipping the buyer pays, plus a small fixed fee per order. Some categories are higher or lower, so check eBay's fee page for yours.

Is the fee charged on shipping too?

Yes. eBay's final value fee is calculated on the total amount the buyer pays, including shipping, and where sales tax is collected it can also be included. This calculator applies the percentage to price plus shipping. Add the tax effect by raising the fee slightly if it applies to you.

What is a good profit margin on eBay?

It depends on the item and how much work it takes, but many sellers aim for a margin of 15 to 30 percent after all costs. Use the target margin box to see the price needed for the margin you want.

What does break-even price mean?

It is the lowest selling price at which you make zero profit after fees and costs. Anything above it is profit, so it is a useful floor when you price an item or accept offers.

Does this include promoted listings and returns?

Promoted listings are included if you enter their rate as a share of the price. Returns, sales tax and income tax are not included, so keep some margin for them.
