Frequently Asked Questions
Why do images I save from websites come out as WebP?
Many sites serve WebP because it's 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality, which makes pages load faster. Some photo editors, office apps, and older devices still can't open WebP files.
What happens to transparency?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, white by default. To keep transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Are animated WebP files supported?
Only the first frame of an animated WebP is converted, because JPG and PNG are still-image formats.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, and your files stay on your device.
