UUID Generator

Generate one or many UUIDs with your browser's secure random generator. Choose v4 for fully random IDs, or v7 for IDs that sort by creation time.

Your files never leave your device — everything runs in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between UUID v4 and v7?

v4 is 122 bits of pure randomness. v7 starts with a millisecond timestamp followed by random bits, so v7 IDs sort by creation time. That makes them work well as database primary keys, because new rows are inserted in index order.

Can two generated UUIDs be the same?

In practice, no. With 122 random bits, the chance of a collision is so small it can be ignored, even when generating billions of IDs.

Is a UUID the same as a GUID?

Yes. GUID is Microsoft's name for the same 128-bit identifier. Use the 'Uppercase' and 'Wrap in { }' options to get the classic Windows GUID format.

Are the UUIDs generated securely?

Yes. They come from your browser's cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), and they're never sent to or logged on a server.
