Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the OCR?

On clean, straight scans of printed text, accuracy is usually very high. Handwriting, low-resolution photos, skewed pages, and decorative fonts reduce accuracy, so proofread important documents.

Why does it take a while?

The OCR engine runs on your own device instead of a server. The first run also downloads the language model, which is then cached. Larger documents take longer because each page is processed separately.

What's the difference from PDF to Text?

PDF to Text reads the text layer a PDF already has, which is instant and exact. OCR is for PDFs that have no text layer, such as scans and photos, where the text has to be recognized from the image.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Rendering and recognition both happen in your browser. Only the language model is downloaded; your file never leaves your device.
