Frequently Asked Questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones and iPads. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows apps, websites, and older devices can't open it.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At 90% quality, the difference is practically invisible. JPG files are usually larger than the HEIC originals, because JPG compresses less efficiently. Choose PNG if you need lossless output.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC photos?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose 'Most Compatible'. New photos are then saved as JPG. Existing HEIC photos still need converting.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Decoding runs in your browser with WebAssembly. Your photos, and their location data, stay on your device.
